Why I write this novel
Creatures churn the clumps of soil and meet with and gnaw upon exposed and tender new roots. That is pure love.
I’m sharing a 21 day practice that was passed on to me.
Harvesting the Gifts of the Ancestors is a mediation or ritual that Joanna Macy wrote as part of her Work That Reconnects. I performed the ritual at one of her workshops and noticed immediately that it was Eurocentric. I was later asked by her and her staff to rewrite it. This version first appeared in Deep Times Journal.

Synopsis
James is an astrophysics PhD and a member of the National Black Physicists Society. His story is narrated through the lens of several ancestral narrators. They know of James’ lineage intimately. One ancestor, the spiritual and common ancestor of humankind, is a witness to the karmic and evolutionary lineage of all life on earth.
James sees the ghost of a recently dead lover. His attempts at reason break down. Still, he desires a world devoid of any experiences that cannot be quantified.
